Job summary

PG&E is seeking an entry-level Associate Protection Engineer to support protection studies for transmission voltages up to 230 kV and below. The role includes performing protection duties under supervision, reviewing protection settings, and aiding in project walkdowns for Electric Engineering projects in the Fresno area.

The position is hybrid, with work from a remote office and the PG&E service territory location as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
EIT certification is preferred.
Two years engineering experience desirable.
Able to apply basic engineering principles and theory.
Basic understanding of symmetrical components and fault calculations.
Basic knowledge of logic gate theory and control circuitry.
Able to read Operating, Single line, SLM&R, and schematic diagrams.

Responsibilities

Provide protection engineering support for projects and studies for 230 kV and below.
Issue protection requirements and describe non-standard RAS schemes.
Conduct short circuit studies and calculate fault currents.
Determine relay and automation settings; support system installations.
Perform area coordination studies and participate in project meetings.
Review construction drawings and maintain engineering records.
Update relay data base, transformer data sheets, and fault records.
Review new tools and training prior to rollout; design localized RAS schemes.
