Job summary

Tighe & Bond in Shelton, CT is seeking an Entry Level Staff Engineer to join the Transportation and Roadway Design team in Shelton, CT or Middletown, CT. You will support a variety of roadway projects and gain hands‑on experience with alignments, drainage, and design documentation while collaborating with senior engineers across the Northeast.

Ideal candidates have a Civil Engineering degree, FE/EIT by 2027, and familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Passed FE Exam and EIT certification or plan to by June 2027.
• Strong interest in roadway and transportation design.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
• Basic knowledge of AASHTO, MUTCD, or state DOT standards.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn, collaborate, and take initiative in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of roadway infrastructure including alignments, grading, drainage, and traffic control
• Prepare engineering drawings, reports, specifications, and cost estimates
• Support senior engineers in meeting project goals and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal standards
• Assist with drainage modeling, traffic control planning, and design documentation
• Perform site visits to collect field data and support construction activities
• Use CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation) to prepare and revise design plans
• Help review contractor submittals, RFIs, and support construction administration tasks
• Coordinate with internal teams, municipalities, and regulatory agencies during design and permitting
