Job summary

The City of Bellevue Transportation Department seeks an Engineering Supervisor to lead the Development Review team. You will supervise engineers, review multi-modal transportation plans, and coordinate with developers and agencies to ensure Bellevue codes and standards are met.

Reporting to the Transportation Development Review Manager, you will guide project scope, schedules, and policy updates, mentor staff, and represent the department at public meetings and hearings.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or other closely related technical field.
• Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in transportation or traffic engineering and project management. Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
• Any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
• Washington State Professional Engineering license is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversees work from the Development Review team. Provide direct supervision to review staff, ensuring project understanding and technical review support.
• Mentor, train and evaluate staff and evaluate performance.
• Oversees the review of development proposals to assure compliance with City policy, procedures, and codes. Set goals for the division and ensure quality control.
• Assign permits to staff, oversee project schedules, and review staff communications.
• Ensure technical accuracy of division review work so developer-constructed improvements meet City standards. Support construction inspection and acceptance.
• Participate in process improvements and code updates to increase efficiency across divisions and departments.
• Represent the Transportation Department at public meetings, hearings and serve as an expert witness on traffic and transportation elements of land use decisions.
• Represent the department and act as a spokesperson on committees and with the public, project owners, developers and consultants.
• Acts as the licensed Professional Engineer for staff that are not licensed engineers, providing technical directions and supervision.
• Be a team lead and resource for staff regarding transportation design, standards, decisions, and policies.
• Collaborate with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies.
