Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering (with a geotechnical focus), or a related field plus six years of related experience.
• Valid US Drivers License.
• Master’s degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Soil/Rock Mechanics, or Hydrogeology preferred.
• 8 years of related geotechnical experience, with underground structures experience (tunnels, shafts, caverns, rock reinforcement, grouting, ground improvement).

Responsibilities

• Perform field reconnaissance and geological mapping to identify hazards such as landslides, subsidence, soil liquefaction, or unstable slopes.
• Develop geological models, cross-sections, and maps to support transportation design and construction.
• Oversee fieldwork logistics and supervise drilling operations, test pits, groundwater instrumentation, probe hole drilling and permeability testing.
• Prepare field reports including geologic maps, in-situ testing, logs, and daily construction documentation.
• Communicate findings clearly to stakeholders including NJDOT representatives, project managers, and regulatory agencies.
