Job summary

The Fay School in Houston seeks a Controller to manage the general ledger, close processes, and financial reporting for a $14 million operating budget and ongoing capital campaign. This is hands-on, with growth opportunities and a planned overlap with the current CPA engagement through 2027.

Hybrid work arrangement with on-site days coordinated with HR, and a focus on campaign and construction accounting, payroll control review, and audit preparation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
• Five or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Non-profit fund accounting and GAAP knowledge including net-asset classification and donor restrictions.
• Experience preparing audit schedules and working with an external audit firm.
• Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT or similar systems; strong Excel skills.
• Ability to work in a partially remote arrangement and maintain confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Own the general ledger, close process, and financial reporting.
• Manage campaign and construction accounting through the project lifecycle.
• Prepare audit materials and Form 990/5500 work papers with the external CPA.
• Coordinate payroll, disbursements, and receivables review with CFO approval.
• Develop cash flow, liquidity forecasting, and month/year end processes.
• Support budget cycles and provide timely financial analyses to leadership.
