Job summary

The Fay School in Houston is seeking a Controller to own the general ledger, close, and reporting for a $14 million operating budget. You will oversee campaign and construction accounting, payroll, and receivables, coordinating with an external CPA through a deliberate overlap until the transition is complete.

Ideal candidates bring nonprofit accounting, GAAP expertise, and strong Excel; the role supports a hybrid work model with on-campus needs for audits and project milestones.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or equivalent.
• Five+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience with ownership of the general ledger and financial statements.
• Non-profit fund accounting and GAAP knowledge including net-asset classification and donor restrictions.
• Experience preparing audit schedules and working with an external audit firm.

Responsibilities

• Own the general ledger, monthly close, and financial reporting.
• Manage campaign and construction accounting and related reporting.
• Oversee tuition receivables and collections, payroll, and disbursements coordination.
• Support audit preparation, Form 990/5500 workpapers, and external firm interaction.
• Reconcile cash, bank, and reserve accounts and ensure internal controls.
