Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Control Systems Engineer for a hybrid role based in Paarl, Western Cape. You will design, implement, and maintain industrial control systems (ICS) and automation solutions for upstream and midstream projects, blending on-site commissioning with remote design and support.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in industrial control systems, PLC programming (RSLogix, TIA Portal), SCADA/HMI, DCS configuration, and strong collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics/CS or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in industrial control systems engineering, oil and gas or process industries preferred.
• Proficiency in PLC programming (RSLogix, TIA Portal) and SCADA/HMI development.
• Experience with DCS configuration and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of Modbus/Profibus/Ethernet/IP networking.
• SIS familiarity is a plus; strong problem-solving.
• Willingness to travel to client sites for commissioning and support.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement control system solutions (PLC, SCADA, HMI, DCS).
• Configure and program control systems on vendor platforms.
• Develop and maintain system documentation (P&IDs, control narratives, FDS).
• Conduct on-site and remote system testing, commissioning, troubleshooting.
• Provide technical support and client training.
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to meet requirements.
• Stay current with control system technologies and standards.
• Contribute to project planning and proposals.
