Job summary

Markel is seeking a Claims Examiner II to join its US-based team in New Jersey. The role focuses on moderate-complexity construction claims with multi-jurisdictional exposure.

Responsibilities include analyzing coverage, investigating loss facts, drafting coverage letters, and handling property damage and bodily injury claims up to $250,000. The position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, active claims license eligibility, and 2–3 years in commercial construction claims.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.
• Completion of basic insurance courses or a relevant designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU).
• 2–3 years of commercial construction claims or equivalent experience.
• Insurance industry knowledge or claims handling preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze coverage and communicate coverage positions to insureds.
• Investigate loss facts and extent of damages across jurisdictions.
• Review policies to confirm coverage and draft position letters.
• Evaluate exposure and reserve within authority; participate in mediations.
• Handle property damage and bodily injury claims up to $250,000; liability exposure.
• Process smaller product liability and construction defect claims.
• Identify losses to SIU and assist team on special projects.
• Provide professional customer service and maintain production standards.
