Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Must have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster license.
  • Successful completion of basic insurance courses or designation (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in commercial construction or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of insurance industry or claims handling preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes coverage and communicates coverage positions.
  • Conducts investigations into loss facts and damages.
  • Confirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents.
  • Drafts coverage position letters.
  • Evaluates information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine exposure.
  • Handles claims in all jurisdictions.
  • Handles property damage claims up to $250,000; bodily injury up to $250,000; product liability/defect claims.
  • Identifies losses to report to SIU.
  • Participates in special projects and assists team members.
  • Provides professional customer service to insureds; maintains production.
  • Represents Markel in mediations; sets reserves within authority.
