Job summary

NYC Health Department is seeking a City Research Scientist to support policy, planning and evaluation for child, youth and family mental health programs. The role involves advanced research, supervision and interagency collaboration to strengthen community engagement initiatives across NYC’s public health framework.

The position emphasizes equity, with opportunities to guide CBPAR and youth-driven strategies, and demands strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in physical, biological, environmental science or public health.
  • Doctorate in an appropriate field with at least two years of supervisory/admin/research experience or a Master's with three years of research experience; those with a Doctorate may substitute for the experience.
  • Residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment; probationary period of one year.

Responsibilities

  • Research community planning approaches and CBPAR.
  • Develop and support implementation of a bureau community engagement strategy including youth input.
  • Analyze and synthesize community feedback and report findings to staff and stakeholders.
  • Lead the Youth Committee on Mental Health and ensure collaboration among members.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors and partners for community engagement initiatives.
