Job summary

Stanford University’s IT Hosting Services team is seeking a Hosting Services Operations Engineer for a hybrid role combining cloud operations and hands-on data center work. You will support organization-level cloud accounts, guardrails, and budgeting while also racking, stacking, and maintaining physical infrastructure in Stanford’s data centers.

You will collaborate with engineers, security staff, and vendors across public cloud, private cloud, and hardware environments to build practical

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience.
• Experience with multiple operating systems or deep expertise in one.
• Experience managing an integrated computing environment.
• Proficiency across programming languages for system development.
• Experience with networked environments and network storage solutions.
• Experience configuring and maintaining routers and security protocols.
• Ability to manage shared resources and work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Build, install, configure, analyze, tune, and troubleshoot operating systems to achieve optimal performance.
• Resolve complex system problems and provide consultation or training.
• Configure and assist in designing system and network security.
• Manage hardware, software, and utilities for installation, modification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of operating systems and workstation environments.
• Monitor resource usage and propose enhancements to compute and storage capabilities.
• Document systems infrastructure for users and support personnel.
• Train staff who provide support and consulting services to users.
