Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer in Birmingham, AL to deliver structural design for substations and transmission lines. You will produce drawings and specifications, coordinating with multiple disciplines and scheduling work to meet project deadlines.

The role requires 5+ years of civil/structural design experience, ABET-accredited BS, and knowledge of industry codes. Occasional overnight travel and a hybrid work pattern are expected.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil/Structural Engineering from ABET accredited program with 5+ years of experience.
• Experience in structural design for substations and transmission facilities.
• Experience producing contract documents (drawings/specifications) for steel and concrete foundations.

Responsibilities

• Produce and check structural design calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate design activities with other disciplines and teams.
• Develop scope and man-hour estimates for projects.
• Travel to sites 25% per year and support field/office needs.
• Provide engineering support through all project phases and during storms as needed.
