Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to design, implement, and maintain event-driven microservices in Java/Spring Boot. You will build RESTful APIs, collaborate with pricing and underwriting teams, and help modernize a platform moving to microservices while mentoring teammates.

You will work in a mature Agile environment, contributing to API design, security, and end-to-end delivery, with opportunities for growth and AI-assisted tooling for development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of backend engineering experience.
• Experience in an agile environment using Scrum, Kanban, or XP.
• Proven experience with REST, microservices, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud), and Java, NodeJS and Spring Boot.
• Ability to code in multiple languages, including Java/J2EE and related tech.
• Strong communication skills and collaborative, proactive work style.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and support event-driven microservices in Java and Spring Boot, including REST API design and contract management.
• Contribute to a large, versioned business rules library while maintaining backward compatibility.
• Own service quality end-to-end: testing, static analysis, code reviews, and production monitoring.
• Collaborate with product owners and domain experts to translate requirements into technical designs.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to documentation and best practices.
• Participate in requirement analysis, API design, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
