Duluth Trading Company is seeking an Assistant Controller to own the general ledger and oversee the monthly close through to SEC filings. The role collaborates with the Controller, CFO, FP&A, legal, and auditors.

Based at our Duluth HQ near Madison, WI, the position offers a hybrid schedule with in-office Mon-Thu and optional remote Fridays. The candidate should have a Master’s in accounting, CPA preferred, 7+ years of experience, and 3+ years in a leadership role.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in accounting or related field is preferred.
• CPA is highly preferred.
• 7+ years of experience.
• 3+ years of management experience.
• SEC experience either in a company or public accounting firm.
• Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
• Familiar with U.S. federal, state and local reporting requirements.
• Team player with ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Ability to streamline processes and create efficiencies.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an accurate general ledger with clear documentation of all transactions and intercompany activities.
• Review and approve general ledger entries prepared by staff.
• Supervise the month-end close and prepare schedules, journal entries and financial statements.
• Draft annual/quarterly financial statements, footnotes and MD&A disclosures.
• Assist with technical accounting analysis and maintain the Accounting Policy document.
• Coordinate year-end close procedures and external auditors’ fieldwork.
• Maintain internal controls over financial reporting in line with SOX requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvements in accounting operations.
