Location: Oak Brook, IL (Hybrid – 1 day/week onsite)
A growing, privately held logistics services organization is seeking an Assistant Corporate Controller to support its expanding finance and accounting function. This is a newly created role designed to strengthen close, compliance, and process scalability as the company continues to grow organically and through acquisition.
The Assistant Corporate Controller will be hands-on, manage a small team, and partner closely with senior finance leadership to strengthen close processes, lease accounting, controls, and audit readiness.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance
- Directly manage two accounting professionals (Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant), including review, coaching, and development
- Maintain a strong internal control environment and support continued process sophistication
- Lead and oversee lease accounting under ASC 842, including compliance, reporting, reconciliations, and system maintenance across a large lease portfolio (real estate and vehicle fleet)
- Support external audits by preparing schedules, responding to auditor inquiries, and coordinating documentation
- Collaborate with senior finance leadership on technical accounting matters, process improvements, and system enhancements
- Support accounting integration efforts related to acquisitions and organizational growth
- Work cross-functionally with FP&A, operations, and leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Be willing to roll up sleeves and assist with GL-level work as needed in a lean, fast-moving environment
- Participate in ad-hoc projects supporting the continued evolution of the finance organization
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Master’s or MBA a plus)
- CPA required
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong experience with month-end close and financial reporting under U.S. GAAP
- Lease accounting experience (ASC 842) required
- Public accounting background (audit-focused) strongly preferred
- Exposure to technical accounting topics and audit processes
- Private equity and/or M&A experience a plus
- ERP experience required; NetSuite experience a plus but not required
- Detail-oriented, hands-on, and comfortable working in a growing, evolving environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to partner across functions
