Job summary

King County's Finance and Business Operations Division is seeking a self-motivated SDA/TLT Assistant Accountant to join our team in Seattle. The role focuses on ensuring refunds are properly applied prior to year-end, applying county policies and procedures for accurate accounting.

The position requires accounts payable experience in a high-volume environment, familiarity with Oracle or SAP, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Accounts payable experience in a high-volume processing environment.
• Experience using an automated financial system (Oracle or SAP), preferably Oracle.
• Knowledge of AP policies and applicable regulations (county/state/federal).
• Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Proficient with MS Office tools.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Research refund checks to determine issuance reason and accounting.
• Review vendor, payment and accounting records for accuracy.
• Reconcile refund checks against records and documents.
• Investigate discrepancies between refund amounts and system balances.
• Coordinate with agencies to resolve discrepancies.
• Update systems and trackers with refund status and details.
• Prepare reconciliation reports for management.
• Ensure refunds comply with policies and procedures.
• Monitor refund activity and follow up on overdue items.
• Handle confidential financial and vendor information appropriately.
