Job summary

MITRE's AI and Mission Enablement Department is seeking an AI Solutions Architect Intern currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree. You’ll gain hands-on experience using approved AI tools, data workflows, and development environments, under a technical mentor.

The role emphasizes secure, responsible AI and collaboration across teams. Responsibilities include prototyping, API integrations, documentation, and contributing to starter kits while aligning with security practices.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in and pursuing a Bachelor's degree in computer science, AI, ML, data science, software engineering, systems engineering, or related field.
• Must continue to be enrolled the semester following the internship.
• Must be eligible to obtain a Secret U.S. Government security clearance if required.
• Basic programming knowledge demonstrated through coursework or projects; ability to read/write Python or another language.
• Interest in applied AI and willingness to learn enterprise AI platforms, cloud infra or production AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Participate in discussions with technical and mission users with a mentor; document workflow needs and objectives.
• Build or adapt prototype components, scripts, or API integrations using approved tools.
• Learn and follow security, data handling, and responsible-AI practices; use approved data.
• Run tests/experiments, compare outputs, document results and limitations.
• Contribute starter kits, examples, and setup instructions for teammates.
• Assist with demonstrations, tutorials, and routine user-support tasks with feedback.
• Work with a mentor to set learning goals and present project results at internship end.
