Job summary

HealthPartners is seeking a Software Engineer - Backend Integration & Modernization to support the healthcare claims domain and future admin systems.

You will develop modern services in Java/Spring Boot, integrate IRIS-based cores with new APIs, and collaborate with IRIS/ObjectScript engineers to modernize interfaces. The role emphasizes AI-assisted tooling within prompts and guardrails to boost productivity while maintaining engineering judgment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in CS, MIS, Business Admin, or equivalent experience.
3 years of backend services and API development experience.
Strong Java and Spring Boot experience.
Experience integrating with legacy systems and complex data layers.
Experience designing REST and SOAP services.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity.
Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases.
Willingness to learn IRIS/ObjectScript concepts.
Participation in a rotating on-call schedule.

Responsibilities

Design and implement backend services that integrate modern applications with IRIS based systems.
Modernize existing interfaces while preserving business correctness and performance.
Define and follow standard API and service design patterns.
Partner with IRIS/ObjectScript engineers to ensure proper data access and transaction handling.
Perform unit and integration testing; support system and end-user testing.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to integrations and services.
Contribute to documentation and shared development standards.
