Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Des Moines offers a 2027 Summer Internship in the Finance Division. You’ll work on actuarial pricing, reserving and forecasting, with projects ranging from experience studies to rate filings.

Qualifications

Current student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, Accounting, Statistics or related program.
Demonstrated Microsoft Excel and Access skills.
Ability to analyze and organize data in a consistent and logical fashion.
Proven problem solving, innovation, and technical adaptation skills.
Ability to work independently and clearly communicate results of data analytics and modeling.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative.

Responsibilities

Support actuarial pricing, reserving and forecasting activities.
Conduct experience studies and review procedures (e.g., claim trends, rating factors).
Assist with market performance analyses for individuals and small groups.
Produce ad hoc modeling for health care reform impacts.
Update rating factors and use AV calculator for benefit designs.
Assist with enrollment, claims and income projections for solvency testing and budgets.
Collect, manipulate and analyze data using Excel, Access, VBA and SAS.
