Job summary

The University of Iowa College of Engineering seeks an Academic Advisor and Recruitment Specialist to provide comprehensive academic advising and transition support to undergraduate engineering students, with a focus on first-year cohorts. You will advise individually and in groups, assist with academic planning, and help students navigate policies to promote success.

This role supports recruitment and engagement activities, coordinates College programs, and contributes to student engagement

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of related experience in student recruitment, admissions, academic advising, academic support and retention.
• Excellent communication and listening skills: writing, public speaking, interpersonal and public relations.
• Demonstrated success working in a team environment and with self-direction.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary academic advisor for a selected population of students.
• Advise on policies, programs, and development of academic plans.
• Document student interactions and advising activities in university systems.
• Identify interests and goals to support academic development.
• Introduce opportunities to enrich academic experiences and success.
• Promote College of Engineering and recruit new engineering students.
• Deliver presentations and information sessions for prospective students.
• Participate in recruitment, training, and development of Student Ambassador staff.
• Serve as the Engineering Campus Partner for PIE Living/Learning Community.
