Job summary

University of Florida seeks an Academic Advisor II to engage first-year engineering students through proactive advising and program development. You will guide students in selecting majors, accessing resources, and maintaining retention across their degree path.

You will collaborate with HWCOE, Undergraduate Student Affairs, and external partners to implement advising initiatives, manage probation processes, and create learning materials for student success.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in education, counseling, or academic field related to the college and one year of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree in similar fields with two years of relevant experience.
• Experience presenting to large groups preferred.
• Experience in advising and counseling students at the undergraduate level, especially freshman level, preferred.
• Experience in developing and maintaining electronic databases preferred. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Working knowledge of University of Florida regulations and procedures to facilitate recruitment.
• Must apply excellent judgment and exercise confidentiality.
• Must be able to work with minimum supervision, a self-starter, possessing independence.
• Must be able and willing to work on a team, possessing interdependence.
• Must have excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• Must maintain good working relationships with faculty, students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Advise first-year engineering students to help with major selection and retention.
• Develop and implement programs to enhance success and retention.
• Coordinate advisement with HWCOE and Office of Undergraduate Student Affairs.
• Process probation paperwork and support during probationary periods.
• Create printed materials, webpages, and engaging learning activities for development.
• Direct students to internship and job resources on campus.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners and participate in advising councils.
• Contribute to Freshman transition programs and student life activities.
