Job summary

Johnson Controls International plc. seeks a senior Building Controls Engineer to design, commission, and optimize HVAC and low‑voltage building control systems for customer facilities.

You will develop software, create submittals, and coordinate with contractors and service teams to ensure proper operation and safety. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least eight years of experience in HVAC or building automation, with strong knowledge of control theory, BACnet/LON

Job description

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the service and repair, design, configuration, and operation of complete HVAC building control systems and other low voltage control sub‑systems (lighting, nurse call, data networks, etc.) to meet customer intent and company goals.
• Accountable for quality, timeliness, and efficiency of service, repair, and design activities.
• Develops complex software programs, commissioning and troubleshooting to ensure proper operation of building control systems.
• Provides detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, sales and service teams, and subcontractors.
• Designs, configures, and services technically complex building control systems for customer facilities.
• Creates flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bills of materials, network layouts, schedules, and electrical schematics.
• Develops and tests software programs necessary to operate the system per customer requirements.
• Coordinates and creates necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals, services, and installations.
• Selects, orders, and tracks the delivery of materials for assigned jobs.
• Assists in loading and commissioning all system and network‑level controllers.
• Validates complete system functionality, solving problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation.
• Provides field change information for as‑built drawings and software.
• Makes management, contractors, and customers aware of job progress and issues.
• Assists in performing site‑specific training for owners/operators on the building control system.
• Participates in coordination and release meetings with sales and service operations.
• Performs value engineering to achieve cost‑effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction.
• May provide work direction to Service Controls Technician I, Senior I, and Senior II Controls Technicians.
• Adheres to safety standards, maintaining a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and/or minimum eight (8) years of experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the construction or service, or HVAC industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and building sub‑systems.
• Demonstrated experience integrating low‑voltage building sub‑systems using industry protocols (LON, BACnet, etc.).
• Ability to communicate technical knowledge to a non‑technical audience.
• Advanced computer skills, especially drafting tools.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate: $32.65–$49.00, aligned with education, experience, and market data. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
