Encore Boston Harbor HVAC Technician – Refrigeration

The position is responsible for performing installs, repairs, and maintenance of refrigeration, freezers, air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, hermetic compressors, and related equipment, ensuring excellent guest and team member experience.

Job Responsibilities

• Adheres to all Encore Boston Harbor core values and departmental standards.
• Contributes to departmental performance and maintains accuracy, confidentiality, and thoroughness of policies and procedures, including records and reports.
• Ensures enforcement of all applicable internal policies, laws, rules, and regulations.
• Delivers and maintains a maximum level of property‑wide service and satisfaction.
• Contributes to company‑wide communication and best practices.
• Keeps informed of new developments within the department.
• Provides professional internal and external guest service.
• Balances multiple priorities simultaneously and meets deadlines, often in stressful and high‑pressure situations.
• Services and repairs refrigeration as needed.
• Serves reach‑in coolers and freezers.
• Walks in coolers/freezers, ice machines, and A/C units for inspection and/or service.
• Plans, maintains, and installs equipment as needed.
• Ensures available resources for maintenance and repair.
• Ensures working order of HVAC/R and Emergency Management Systems (EMS) and direct digital control (DDC).
• Works with safety as a priority and follows department and company safety standards.
• Maintains relevant knowledge of the industry through continuing education and training.
• Performs any other job‑related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• 21 years of age or older.
• Registration or license issued by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (required).
• HVAC License (required).
• EPA 608 certification (required).
• Massachusetts Refrigeration License (required).
• OSHA 10 certification preferred.
• Valid Massachusetts Driver License preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an apprenticeship, vocational/trade program, or college courses required.
• Minimum of 3 years of refrigeration experience.
• General computer skills and basic Microsoft Office knowledge.
• Knowledge of small and large commercial refrigerators and freezers.
• Hospitality or related experience required.
• Familiarity with ASHRAE 188.
• Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Knowledge of hand and power tools, testing equipment, and materials.
• Gas fitting experience required; sprinkler knowledge preferred.
• Fluent in chemicals, SDS, PPE, sanitation, and OSHA guidelines.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English; second language a plus.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policy manuals, maintenance instructions, and related documents.
• Mathematical skills to compute basic calculations and interpret reports.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, stretch, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must lift or maneuver at least 70 pounds. Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Noise level is typically moderate; may increase to loud in casino, kitchen, or back‑of‑house areas.
• Must interact professionally with internal and external guests.
• Work schedule varies to reflect business needs.
• May work outside and be exposed to all weather conditions, electrical or mechanical equipment, elevated places (ladders, lifts, catwalks, staging), and varying temperatures.
