Job summary

Air Comfort, Inc. seeks a Lead HVAC Technician III, Critical Systems, based in Ashburn, VA, to supervise installation, maintenance, and operation of mechanical systems in a high-availability data center environment.

You will mentor junior technicians, ensure contractual obligations are met, and help maintain reliable core infrastructure in fast-paced, mission-critical settings.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of large commercial HVAC service experience
• EPA Universal Certification preferred or required
• Virginia Journeyman HVAC license preferred
• OSHA certification preferred
• Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 50%
• Background checks or training may be required

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs on HVAC equipment
• Operate and upgrade Building Automation Software and controls (pneumatic, DDC, VFD)
• Oversee HVAC air distribution systems (AHUs, FCUs, fans)
• Monitor compliance with contractual commitments for mechanical services
• Provide leadership and training to junior technicians
• Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours work
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of maintenance
• Support facility operations with other assigned duties
• Maintain regular attendance as essential
• Travel up to 50% to job sites as needed

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs on all HVAC equipment, including air and water-cooled chillers, centrifugal and screw package chillers, natural gas boilers, unit heaters, electric duct heaters, cooling towers, and various water pumps.
• Operate, maintain, and upgrade Building Automation Software and controls, including pneumatic, DDC, and variable frequency drive systems.
• Oversee HVAC air distribution systems, such as air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), fans, and related devices.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with contractual commitments for mechanical services and maintenance.
• Provide guidance, leadership, and technical expertise to junior technicians, supporting their development and training.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to after-hours assignments as required.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to maintenance activities and system performance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor to support facility operations.
• Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of the role.
• Travel up to 50% to job sites as needed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 7 years of large commercial HVAC service experience required; 8 years preferred.
• Completion of a basic air conditioning theory class.
• Proficiency in the use of HVAC diagnostic tools and instruments.
• Experience with DDC, pneumatic, and variable frequency drive controls.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office or related software.
• Ability to satisfactorily complete any required client background checks or training.
• Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Certification preferred.
• Virginia Journeyman HVAC license preferred.
• OSHA certification preferred.
• Valid Virginia or Maryland driver’s license required.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance preferred.
• Travel up to 50% to job sites as needed
