Job summary

NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking an HVAC Mechanic I (S) to support Central Prison in Raleigh. The role involves journey-level work in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, under the supervision of the HVAC Supervisor.

Responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC energy control systems, wiring HVAC circuits, and mentoring junior staff and offenders as needed. A valid EPA technician certification is required.

Qualifications

• High School or GED and three years of progressive experience in installation, maintenance or repair of HVAC systems.
• EPA Type I/II/III or Universal technician certification required.
• Overtime may be required to meet business needs.

Responsibilities

• Design, install and repair HVAC energy control systems in renovations and construction.
• Assist in wiring for HVAC electrical circuits.
• Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
• Instruct lower level assistants and offenders in performing repairs.
• Provide technical guidance and support to staff in HVAC systems.
