NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking an HVAC Mechanic I (S) to support Central Prison in Raleigh. The role involves journey-level work in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration, under the supervision of the HVAC Supervisor.
Responsibilities include installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC energy control systems, wiring HVAC circuits, and mentoring junior staff and offenders as needed. A valid EPA technician certification is required.

Reporting to the HVAC Supervisor at a multi-custody male correctional facility, this position provides journey level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs.
Central Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers. While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry or canteen.
Offenders also work as barbers, janitors and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or worship services.

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
