Job summary

Valparaiso University is seeking an HVAC Technician I to perform maintenance, service, and repairs on a range of complex HVAC systems, including chillers and boilers, with BAS interaction. The role requires diagnosing issues, reading blueprints, and coordinating with other trades.

A valid driver’s license and refrigerant certification are required. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, coil and motor work, and responding to anomalies in pressure and temperature.

Qualifications

• Three years of related experience.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Refrigerant Certification required.
• Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) helpful.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain and evaluate operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment; lubricate bearings, check bearing temperature, check packing on chilled water and steam valves, and repair and diagnose issues with pneumatically and digitally controlled HVAC systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and repairs of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment
• Repair coil, motor or belt components as needed
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment and related systems including boilers, pumps, chillers, air handlers, heat recovery ventilators, variable refrigerant flow systems, and dedicated outdoor air systems
• Complete work orders and communicate the status when resolved or an update is appropriate
• Respond to pressure, airflow, temperature, and humidity anomalies
• Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications.
• Assist other trades as needed
