St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking an HVAC Technician I for the Facilities Maintenance Division of our Facilities Management Department whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

Facilities Management provides comprehensive facilities services including property management and maintenance for all properties and buildings owned by the St. Johns Board of County Commissioners.

The Facilities Management Department provides the full spectrum of facility maintenance, operations and repair services for approximately 2 million square feet of County facilities. These properties range in purpose from recreational facilities and entertainment venues to public safety, general administrative offices and criminal justice facilities. The program’s goal is to ensure that County buildings and facilities reliably and efficiently perform the functions for which they were designed and constructed throughout their service life. In addition, the division performs in-house minor construction and renovation services.

The newly selected HVAC Technician I will be responsible for performing maintenance, repair and installation of HVAC systems located at St. Johns Count Facilities.

The ideal HVAC Technician I must possess St. Johns County’s core ore values of Dedication, Openness, Adaptability, Visionary, Fiscal Responsibility, Integrity, and Humility. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:

• Performs routine preventive maintenance and filter replacement on HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Assists HVAC journeyman and master technicians with the installation and repair of commercial and residential HVAC systems.
• Monitors HVAC system operation and makes adjustments to HVAC automated controls to maintain temperature and humidity set points.
• Maintains assigned tools, vehicles and equipment.
• Follows established security and safety protocols while working at the Criminal Justice Facility and related Buildings.
• Maintains a full-time presence on the job.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

A candidate will be designated as an HVAC Technician Iand placed at a pay grade 13with the following:

• High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
• Must have completed a vocational training program for HVAC.
• Must have held the following full-time positions for a minimum of 1 year: HVAC Repair Technician; HVAC Installation Technician; HVAC Helper; HVAC Apprentice; or
• 6 months of experience as a St. Johns County HVAC Technician Trainee.
• Certifications accepted but not required include: HVAC Support Technician by the North American Technician Excellence (NATE).

A candidate may be designated as HVAC Technician IIand placed at a pay grade 15 with one of the following:

• High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
• Must have completed a vocational training program for HVAC.
• Must possess one of the following State of Florida Journeyman HVAC license; St. Johns County Journeyman HVAC license; or Out of State Journeyman HVAC license; or another Florida county (other than St. Johns) Journeyman HVAC license.
• Demonstrated competence and successful work performance at the HVAC II level of experience and competency in the field with a minimum of 4 years of full-time work as an HVAC Technician I or equivalent; or an HVAC Repair Technician; or an HVAC Installation Technician; or an HVAC Helper; or an HVAC Apprentice.

A candidate may be designated as HVAC Technician IIIand placed at a pay grade 17 with one of the following:

• Must possess one (1) of the following State of Florida Master HVAC license; St. Johns County Master HVAC license; Out of State Master HVAC license; Another Florida county (other than St. Johns) Master HVAC license.
• Demonstrated competence and successful work performance at the HVAC III level of experience and competency in the field with a minimum of 5 years of full time work as a Journeyman or HVAC II Technician.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
• Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
• Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
• Must be able to operate a computer.
