Job Title: HVAC Technician Job Description

The HVAC Technician installs, services, repairs, and maintains a wide range of HVAC and process cooling equipment, ensuring reliable operation of systems that support production and facility needs. This role performs routine inspections, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance in accordance with building codes and safety regulations, working with both mechanical and refrigeration systems in a commercial and manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on HVAC and process cooling equipment, including air handling units (AHUs), chillers, cooling towers, variable air volume (VAV) systems, heaters, boilers, air compressors, air dryers, and freezers.

  • Conduct routine and periodic inspections to identify necessary repair and maintenance work before equipment breakdowns occur.

  • Use hand and power tools to troubleshoot, test, inspect, and repair mechanical and refrigeration equipment.

  • Review and follow blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications to diagnose issues and complete installations or repairs.

  • Install, service, modify, rebuild, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems in accordance with applicable building codes and safety regulations.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and refrigeration systems to maximize reliability, efficiency, and equipment life.

  • Work with building maintenance management and work order tracking systems to document work performed and manage maintenance tasks.

  • Support HVAC operations in a manufacturing environment, ensuring systems effectively serve production machines and facility requirements.

  • Apply strong computer, math, analytical, and planning skills to evaluate system performance and plan maintenance activities.

  • Collaborate with other facility and maintenance personnel to address complex mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues.

Essential Skills
  • Strong commercial HVAC and refrigeration experience.

  • Experience working with HVAC equipment in a manufacturing environment that supports production machines.

  • Experience in the aerospace/defense industry.

  • Proficiency with building maintenance management and work order tracking systems.

  • Strong computer skills for using maintenance software and documenting work.

  • Strong math, analytical, and planning skills to diagnose issues and schedule maintenance.

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration troubleshooting and repair.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications.

  • Familiarity with electrical and electronic components related to air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Approximately 4 years of experience in HVAC, chillers, cooling towers, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

  • Ownership of basic HVAC tools.

  • Universal EPA certification.

  • Active California driver’s license.

  • Comfort working with both indoor and outdoor HVAC and refrigeration systems.

  • High level of initiative and ability to maintain strong output in a busy environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Torrance, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
