DESCRIPTION
AirMaxx has an expectation that all their Installers / Service Technicians are able to plan, direct and coordinate all job-related operations. You will be responsible for improving performance, productivity, efficiency, and profitability through the implementation of effective methods and strategies. A level II installer / Service Technician will be able to be self-motivated on all jobs and be able to effectively expedite to a Level III Master Installer / Technician.
2.0 ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- Fully understands the basic refrigeration cycles to include: identifying components in refrigeration circuit, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the refrigeration circuit, using manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature chart and temperature measuring devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot. Understands refrigeration recovery, evacuation and charging, understands the installation and sizing of refrigerant piping.
- Fully understands basic heating cycle to include: identifying components in heating system, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the heating system using a gas pressure test and other devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot. Fully understands the theory of combustion and how it relates to combustible fuels such as gas and oil.
- Fully understands electron theory, how electricity travels, AC and DC currents, single phase and three phase circuits, and series and parallel circuits. Ability to read wiring advanced wiring diagrams. Knowledge of Ohms Law. Ability to use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values. Must be able to troubleshoot advanced electrical circuits.
- Fully understands the fundamentals of temperature and humidity measurement and control in air conditioning units. Understands the process of treating air so as to simultaneously control its temperature, humidity, cleanliness and distribution. Ability to use a psychometric chart to determine the results of mixing air having various properties.
- Fully understands the basics of multiple systems and how each component within the system operates in conjunction with the other components and how that impacts the overall operations of the system as a whole. These systems include air cooled, water cooled, hot water systems, chilled water systems, VAV systems, steam heating systems.
- Basic knowledge of Windows operating system.

4.0 ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
An Installer/Technician II must be able to install, repair, adjust, maintain, retrofit and troubleshoot the following:
- Refrigerant controls (metering devices)
- Hermetic and semi-hermetic compressors
- Heat pumps to 25-ton
- Split systems to 50-ton (forced air furnace, air conditioner, and evaporator coils)
- Packaged units to 50-ton
- All types and sizes of ductless splits
- Electric Motors (3-phase and 1-phase)
- Electric motor controls (contractors, starters, relays, disconnects, thermostats, etc.)
- Light commercial furnaces, boilers, burners and related controls (oil and gas)
- All types and sizes of water pumps
- Intake and exhaust fans, attic fans
- Unit heaters (hot water, steam and electric)
- Economizers
- Humidifiers and dehumidifiers
- Capacity Controls (unloader, hot gas bypass valves, fan cycling controls, motor masters)
- Flame safeguard controls
- Air compressors
- Air driers
- Reciprocating chillers
- VAV systems
- VAV controls
- VAV terminal boxes
- Large Gravity type boilers
- Large Power flame type boilers
- Variable frequency drives
- Various types and sizes of cooling towers
- Various types and sizes of boilers

An Installer/Technician II must be able to proficiently perform the following tasks:
- Soldering
- Brazing
- Combustion analysis
- Heat load calculations
- Heat Pump Analysis
- Pump Sizing
- Basic navigation through multiple building automation controls systems
5.0 ESSENTIAL DAILY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Check in with office for scheduled jobs after the completion of each job and at the end of each work day.
- During and or at the end of each task complete all company provided forms to the fullest extent possible.
- Responsible for time management of jobs scheduled each day.
- Check in with client at the beginning and end of each task.
- Obtain client signature on company provided forms where applicable.
- Upon completion of each task record time spent at each job on the weekly time sheet.
- Hand in paperwork at the end of each week for processing in sequential order.
- Ensure all vendor packing slips or invoices for each job are secured to the related job forms.
- Ensure all materials used for each task are listed properly on the company provided forms.
- Assist on job sites with other Knott Mechanical technicians as needed.
- Answer all office text messages and calls in a timely manner.
- Check in as needed to ensure office dispatcher and/or operations supervisor are aware of your status.
- Secure parts and tools needed throughout the day for various jobs as required.
- Call in repairs to the estimator or field supervisor and provide the necessary info needed to quote the repair, and fill out the appropriate quote forms as required.
- Consult field supervisor or dispatcher in times of uncertainty.
6.0 ESSENTIAL OVERALL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be able to build client confidence in the company.
- Provide information to management on training needs and courses of interest.
- Responsible for the daily preparation of the parts and tools for each day’s activities.
- Complete work in a timely and workmanlike manner.
- Coordinate with dispatcher for the use of company tools and ensure they are returned to the office in a timely manner.
- Participate in company-wide internal meetings as required.
- Maintain company tools in a professional manner.
- Wear shoe covers and place floor tarps on jobs as needed and required by company and customer.
- Must safely handle equipment and tools while moving inside, outside and around customer’s property.
7.0 EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Must have completed AirMaxx’s Apprentice Training Program or comparable work-related experience and carry an EPA Certification/License OR.
- Any similar combination of education and experience.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
- Manufacturers equipment certifications.
- Multiple seminar certifications.
8.0 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent logistical knowledge of the Channahon/Minooka, Joliet, Plainfield, Oswego area and surrounding suburbs.
- Must be able to drive to local job sites on a daily basis if needed.
- On-call and overtime hours as needed.
- Excellent hygiene and cleanliness is required at all times.
- Must adhere to the company uniform policy.
- Maintain a clean vehicle and make the office aware of maintenance issues.
- Good driving record.
- Follow rules and regulations as described in the company Handbook.
