Job summary

Ferguson Enterprises in Akron, OH is hiring a knowledge‑able, results‑driven Counter Sales Associate to be a trusted advisor for plumbing and HVAC contractor customers. You will apply product expertise to help customers choose parts, solve problems, and make informed purchasing decisions aligned with our sales strategy.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday 7:00am to 4:30pm. You’ll drive sales, upsell and cross-sell, assist with inventory, and support seamless service with Outside Sales teammates

Qualifications

• 0–3 years of experience in customer service or sales.
• Prior experience in plumbing/HVAC or related industry preferred.
• Sales mindset with ability to meet goals and influence purchasing decisions.
• Strong communication skills for consultative selling and customer engagement.
• Digital literacy and ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Engage customers proactively at the counter, on the phone, and via email to understand their needs and recommend solutions.
• Serve as a product expert by applying knowledge of plumbing, HVAC and related products to guide decisions.
• Drive sales growth by identifying opportunities to upsell, cross-sell, and promote strategic products.
• Utilize catalogs, computer systems, and manufacturer databases to locate parts and provide accurate information.
• Process transactions efficiently while ensuring accuracy and a positive customer experience.
• Collaborate with Outside Sales Associates to support account growth and deliver seamless service.
• Manage special orders and follow up on order status, back-orders, and delivery timelines.
• Maintain a professional, organized counter environment reflecting our commitment to quality and service.
• Assist with inventory management, cycle counts, and stock organization.
• Assist with occasional warehouse duties such as receiving, shipping and stocking.
• Adhere to all safety regulations, including PPE usage.
