Job summary

Adult Correction is hiring an HVAC Mechanic I (S) to perform journey-level work in construction, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning systems and related controls. The role reports to the Maintenance/Construction Supervisor III and focuses on ensuring reliable climate control and facility comfort for the institution.

The job requires EPA certification and a high school diploma or GED, with a full-time schedule and state benefits.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
• Ability to train new mechanics or supervise helpers.
• Work with limited supervision on moderate to complex repairs.

Responsibilities

• Identify the cause of problems and determine repair methods and materials.
• Independently perform repairs on most jobs; larger cases reviewed by a supervisor.
• Troubleshoot and repair chiller electrical control circuits; overhaul compressors.
• Check and calibrate control systems; replace faulty thermostats and wiring.
• Perform preventive maintenance on A/C and air handling equipment; install units.
• Build and install ductwork and chilled water piping; balance distribution systems.
• Assist in troubleshooting fire alarm systems.
