To be eligible for the sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.
This position is located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Avery County, NC. It involves performing journey-level work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning systems, air handling units, chilled water systems, refrigeration units, and control mechanisms. Work is assigned via work orders, and the employee is expected to diagnose issues, select materials and tools, and execute repairs independently, with complex jobs reviewed by a supervisor. The role may include training or supervising helpers.
This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with State Benefits.
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency with tools and equipment used in HVAC repair, along with the ability to perform journey-level work independently.
The salary range is $37,782.00 – $66,120.00, effective January 1, 2025. The position is classified as NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply, with salary adjustments based on qualifications and internal equity.
