This position is located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Avery County, NC.
Positions in this class perform the full range of journey work duties associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning systems and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and control mechanisms. In addition, positions maintain refrigeration units and their control systems. Work assignments are generally in the form of work orders indicating the nature of the problem. Positions are expected to identify the cause of the problem, determine materials and tools, needed and method of repair, and carry out repair procedures independently on most jobs. The larger, costlier, exceptional, or more complex jobs may be reviewed by a technical supervisor to determine extent of malfunction, to assure that proper work methods are being followed and that work is of acceptable quality. Positions may train new mechanics or supervise the work of helpers.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
***As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state's pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range will be $37,782.00 – $66,120.00. ***
