This position is located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Avery County, NC.
Positions perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and/or construction of buildings and facilities. Work requires specialization in two or more technical trades related to maintenance of facilities, equipment, and machinery. Positions function at the journey level in multiple skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, or similar. Work is complex, requiring planning and coordination across multiple trades. Positions operate with limited oversight, seeking input from higher-level specialists for complex issues, and provide technical guidance to others. Work must adhere to established standards.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply even if the salary grade is the same or lower than their current position. Salary will be recalculated based on education, experience, funding, and internal equity, potentially resulting in a pay increase.
***Effective January 1, 2025, new salary adjustments will be implemented with a range of $39,671.00 – $69,426.00.***

High school diploma or GED and two years of progressive experience in the relevant trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require EPA certification as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician, as per federal regulations.
