This position is located at Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Avery County, NC.
Positions involve skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work for buildings and facilities. Requires expertise in two or more technical trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air conditioning, or similar fields. Work is complex, requiring planning and coordination across multiple trades, often performed independently with limited oversight. The role includes providing technical guidance to other maintenance staff and ensuring work standards are met.
This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with State benefits.
The salary grade is NC09, with a new salary range effective January 1, 2025, of $39,671.00 – $69,426.00. State employees are encouraged to apply regardless of current salary, as salary may be recalculated based on qualifications.
Applicants must demonstrate experience in general maintenance and repair of buildings, systems, equipment, and machinery, with at least a high school diploma or GED and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician may be required.
