Job summary

Augusta University Facilities Operations is seeking an HVACR Technician to perform routine corrective repairs and preventative maintenance on a variety of building HVACR equipment, under supervision. You will service air handling units, chillers, boilers, pumps, and controls, and assist with component replacement and emergency repairs as needed.

Responsibilities include documenting work requests, communicating with supervisors and customers, and being available for on-call rotations.

Job Summary

This position performs routine corrective repairs and preventative maintenance to a variety of building heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) equipment under close supervision. This includes air handling units, chillers, heat pumps, boilers, pumps, exhaust fans, fan-coil units, variable air volume boxes, motors, air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution and variable volume systems. Performs seasonal transitions of systems to and from heating and cooling. Performs basic repairs of HVACR systems and equipment including air handling units, chillers, heat pumps, exhaust fans, fan coil units, variable air volume boxes, motors, pumps, air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution and variable volume systems. Assists in major component replacement and systems repairs under the supervision of higher-level technicians. Assists in executing HVACR system repair projects, such as the replacement of air handling units, chillers, or boilers as well as emergency repair efforts to repair such units. This position may be required to serve in on-call status and remain work-ready when scheduled for an on-call period or rotation.

Responsibilities

The job duties include, but are not limited to:

Preventive Maintenance

Always leave equipment in safe working condition, immediately notify supervisor of dangerous situations.

Document and notify supervisor of any equipment failure and/or potential failures.

Document all corrective actions in detail on assigned work requests.

Perform quarterly, mid-annual, and annual preventative maintenances on Augusta University HVAC equipment based on manufactures required preventative maintenance requirements.

Performs all maintenance work in a neat and timely manner.

Perform preventative maintenance work on Augusta University HVAC systems as well as fire alarm systems.

Keep records of completed preventative maintenance as well as any future work that needs to be completed.

Communicate to supervisor of any shutdowns that need to occur to complete preventative maintenance of Augusta University HVAC equipment.

Communicate with supervisor once supervisor once preventative maintenance is complete and equipment has been returned to normal operation.

Responds to Work Request

Respond to work orders in a quick and timely manner.

Communicate with customer explaining if work order is completed or if further work needs to be completed.

Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems in a quick a timely manner.

Communicate with the supervisor any future work that needs to be completed to ensure all Augusta University equipment is effectively operating.

Document and notify supervisor of any equipment failure and/or potential failures.

Document all corrective actions in detail on assigned work requests.

Leadership

Utilizes effective critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills to make decisions and communicates tactfully to Facilities Operations.

Contract Management

Estimates materials needed and records time and material expended on each work order. Prepares and submits material requisitions required to complete assigned tasks.

Reads, interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures.

Communications

Consistently provide professional, accurate, tactful, and timely written and verbal communications to Facilities staff as well as other Augusta University staff.

Establishes and maintains positive collaborative working relationships with Augusta University Facilities and its¿ customers.

Performs Related Work as Required

Employees will follow all Augusta University and Facilities Operations policies and procedures.

Work with scheduled contractors to complete projects and report to Facilities Operations supervisor once project is complete and if any future work needs to be completed.

Wear provided uniform and maintain good hygiene.

Respond to requests received from facilities operations work management team.

Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization or vocational training in HVACR with 1 year experience.

Valid drivers license to drive State vehicles

Vocational Certificate from a recognized state or federal accrediting organization in the HVAC Field.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES

Ability to read and understand engineering and architectural design documents.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration theories, principles, and systems operations. Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices for HVACR systems.

SKILLS

Must have general mechanical aptitude and be able to safely and effectively operate hand tools, physically enter and work inside of small confined spaces, climb ladders and work at various heights. This position requires a moderate amount of physical exertion daily. That includes walking, lifting heavy objects up to (75lbs), kneeling, and crawling.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days: Monday - Friday. This position may be required to serve in on-call status and remain work-ready when scheduled for an on-call period or rotation.

Pay Band: 6

Salary Minimum: $18.85/hour - $18.93/hour

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
