Job summary

Augusta University is seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to maintain and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across its Health Sciences campus and affiliates. You will diagnose equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and support the building automation system to ensure optimum indoor air quality and comfort.

The ideal candidate has a High School diploma or GED with 3+ years in HVACR, electrical knowledge, and a commitment to safety.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required with 3+ years of HVACR experience preferred.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing HVACR systems, including diagnose/repair of electrical components.
  • Preferred qualifications include HVACR contractor license and NATE certification.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to work orders quickly and communicate status to stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems to restore operations efficiently.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment across campus facilities.
  • Coordinate shutdowns with supervisor to minimize disruption to operations.

Facilities Services Division provides quality customer service by maintaining a safe, healthy, and aesthetically pleasing environment in which students, faculty, and staff can function and accomplish their educational objectives and by supporting a patient care culture that continuously improves. Facilities Services' responsibilities include Interior and Exterior Facilities Support, Construction, Space Management, and Environmental Services.

Job Summary

This position will perform repairs and maintain the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment for Augusta University. Work will be primarily on the Health Sciences campus, but may support all other campuses as well. This position is primarily responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining HVAC equipment, exhaust fans, fume hoods, and DDC control equipment. This work may include the testing of electrical circuits and electrical components. Preventative Maintenance will be performed on air cooled chillers, air handling units, package units, DX units, and any other HVAC related equipment on AUs campuses that is assigned. The position will also be involved with the building automation system, Metasys. Successful candidate must have knowledge of chilled water systems, boiler systems, heating water systems, HVAC systems, and have good electrical knowledge and skills. The working hours for this position are 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. This position will be required to report to emergencies that may extend outside normal working hours, and may included weekends, holidays, and evenings. This position will be on call seven days a week on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

The job duties include, but are not limited to:

Preventative Maintenance
  • Always leave equipment in safe working condition, immediately notify supervisor of dangerous situations.
  • Document and notify supervisor of any equipment failure and/or potential failures.
  • Document all corrective actions in detail on assigned work orders.
  • Perform quarterly, mid-annual, and annual preventative maintenances on Augusta University HVAC equipment based on manufactures required preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Performs all maintenance work in a neat and timely manner.
  • Schedule all preventative maintenances so that it does not disrupt the operation of Augusta University buildings or its customers.
  • Keep records of completed preventative maintenance as well as any future work that needs to be completed.
  • Communicate to supervisor of any shutdowns that need to occur to complete preventative maintenance of Augusta University HVAC equipment.
  • Communicate with supervisor once preventative maintenance is complete and equipment has been returned to normal operation.
Communications
  • Consistently provide professional, accurate, tactful, and timely written and verbal communications to Facilities staff as well as other Augusta University staff.
  • Establishes and maintains positive collaborative working relationships with Facility Operations and customers.
Responds to Work Request
  • Respond to work orders in a quick and timely manner.
  • Communicate with customer explaining if work order is completed or if further work needs to be completed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems in a quick a timely manner.
  • Engage with other trades as needed to complete work orders.
  • Schedule shutdowns with supervisor to ensure Augusta University buildings and its customers are not being disrupted.
  • Communicate with supervisor any future work that needs to be completed to ensure all Augusta University equipment is effectively operating.
  • Document and notify supervisor of any equipment failure and/or potential failures.
  • Document all corrective actions in detail on assigned work orders.
Leadership
  • Utilizes effective critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills to make decisions and communicates tactfully to Facilities Leadership.
Contract Management
  • Estimates materials needed and records time and material expended on each work order. Prepares and submits material requisitions required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Reads, interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures.
  • Perform shutdowns of assigned systems as required for maintenance or for project support.
Performs Related Work As Required
  • Employees will follow all Augusta University and Facilities Operations policies and procedures.
  • Work with scheduled contractors to complete projects and report to the supervisor once project is complete and if any future work needs to be completed.
  • Wear provided facility operations uniform and maintain good hygiene.
  • Respond to requests received from facilities operations work management team.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization and 3+ years of experience in the HVACR field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Vocational Degree in HVACR from recognized State or federal accrediting organization
  • 6 or more years of applicable electrical experience
  • HVACR Contractor (non-restricted) license from the State of Georgia
  • NATE Certification
