Job summary

Augusta University is seeking a Plumber 1 to join the Summerville Campus facilities team. You will inspect, repair, and maintain internal plumbing systems, including drains, toilets, and water piping, and assist in project installations as part of a crew.

Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, responding to work requests, and coordinating with the supervisor to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED and one year of applicable experience.
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility to operate Augusta University vehicles.
  • Preferred 0-1 year of general work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance: keep equipment safe, document actions, and notify supervisor of issues.
  • Responds to Work Requests: address and troubleshoot plumbing issues promptly, inform about further work.
  • Leadership: use problem-solving to make decisions and communicate with Facilities Operations.
  • Contract Management: estimate materials, read blueprints, and document time and materials.

Job Summary
  • Inspects, repairs, and maintains internal building plumbing systems as well as associated sanitary sewer drains. Fixes routine problems involving drains, toilets, urinals, sinks, faucets, valves, and domestic water supply piping.
  • Installs plumbing piping, fittings, fixtures, valves, and other related appliances according to the National Plumbing Code as part of a project work crew or repair team. Assists in the repairs of water distribution piping and sanitary sewer piping.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on building plumbing systems including drains, strainers, and valves.
  • May be required to serve in an on‑call status and remain work‑ready when scheduled for an on‑call period or rotation.
Responsibilities

Preventative MaintenanceAlways leave equipment in safe working condition, immediately notify supervisor of dangerous situations. Document and notify supervisor of any equipment failure and/or potential failures. Document all corrective actions in detail on assigned work requests. Perform quarterly, mid-annual, and annual preventative maintenances on Augusta University plumbing equipment based on manufacturers required preventative maintenance requirements. Performs all maintenance work in a neat and timely manner. Perform preventative maintenance work on Augusta University Plumbing systems as well as fire sprinkler systems Keep records of completed preventative maintenance as well as any future work that needs to be completed. Communicate to supervisor of any shutdowns that need to occur to complete preventative maintenance of Augusta University plumbing equipment. Communicate with supervisor once preventative maintenance is complete and equipment has been returned to normal operation.

Responds to Work RequestRespond to work orders in a quick and timely manner. Communicate with customer explaining if work order is completed or if further work needs to be completed. Troubleshoot and repair plumbing systems in a quick a timely manner. Communicate with the supervisor any future work that needs to be completed to ensure all Augusta University equipment is effectively operating. Document and notify supervisor of any equipment failure and/or potential failures. Document all corrective actions in detail on assigned work requests.

LeadershipUtilizes effective critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills to make decisions and communicates tactfully to Facilities Operations.

Contract ManagementEstimates materials needed and records time and material expended on each work order. Prepares and submits material requisitions required to complete assigned tasks. Reads, interpret blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures.

CommunicationsConsistently provide professional, accurate, tactful, and timely written and verbal communications to Facilities staff as well as other Augusta University staff. Establishes and maintains positive collaborative working relationships with Augusta University Facilities and its customers.

Performs Related Work as RequiredEmployees will follow all Augusta University and Facilities Operations policies and procedures. Work with scheduled contractors to complete projects and report to Facilities Operations supervisor once project is complete and if any future work needs to be completed. Wear provided uniform and maintain good hygiene. Respond to requests received from facilities operations work management team. Perform any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or GED from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization and one year of applicable experience. Valid driver's license and qualified to operate Augusta University vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications

Basic knowledge of the National Plumbing Code and plumbing system components. Preferred 0-1 year of general work experience.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: May be required to serve in an on-call status and remain work-ready when scheduled for an on-call period or rotation. Working hours for this position are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Pay Band: 4. Salary Minimum: $17.02/hour. Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position. Recruitment Period: 8/26/26 - Until Filled.
