ASRC Federal Communications is seeking an HVAC Technician for our ISS2 contract supporting our Air Force customer. This position is located on Wake Island, a remote location 2,100 miles west of Honolulu (HNL).

This unique position offers a rotational schedule: three months working on Wake Island followed by one month off (unpaid). During your work periods, on-site housing will be provided in dormitory-style accommodations.

General Summary

The HVAC Technician repairs, overhauls, maintains, and services commercial, industrial, and residential heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.

  1. Repair, overhaul, maintain, and service industrial and residential heating, ventilating, hydronic, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units.
  2. Clean, service, and repair mechanical room equipment.
  3. Troubleshoot and locate malfunctions, diagnose problems, and determine repairs.
  4. Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts that register various aspects of HVAC operations.
  5. Repair or replace compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys.
  6. Service and repair evaporators, condensers, and receivers.
  7. Repack valves, lubricate moving parts, replace filters and clean coils as needed.
  8. Recover, track, and manage refrigerants and all ozone-depleting chemicals (ODCs) under EPA Regulations.
  9. Adjust, repair, or replace thermostats, pressure stays, relays, switches, and electrical wiring.
  10. Repair components within a system to include transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, and aqua stats.
  11. Maintain logs and equipment inventories.
  12. Record various aspects of HVAC systems and their operations.
  13. Treat HVAC systems with chemicals and analyze for such things as acidity, causticity, and alkalinity following prescribed methods.
  14. Install or repair water, steam, or other types of piping associated with heating and Hot/Cold domestic Water Systems.
  15. Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools; cuts and threads pipe using machine threading or hand threading equipment.
  16. Bend and form sheet metal for ductwork, grease pans, etc.
  17. Paint and insulate HVAC mechanical rooms and distribution equipment.
  18. Work from blueprints, drawings, models and/or verbal and written instructions.
  19. Inspect work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, policies, and regulations.
  20. Ensure proper housekeeping of job site, mechanical rooms, and shops. Ensure that equipment, storage, and maintenance areas are clean, safe, and serviceable conditions.
  21. Respond to call-outs after normal working hours, as needed.
  22. Perform other tasks as directed by Management (or Designated Representative).
Minimum Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. EPA Sect. 608 Universal CFC Handling Certification or ability to maintain within 90 days of start date.
  3. Demonstrated HVAC mechanical technical hands-on experience.
  4. Must be able to lift fifty (50) lbs regularly.
  5. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  6. Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
  7. Ability to understand, speak, read, and write English.
  8. Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
