Job summary

Johnson Controls is offering an HVAC Controls Sales Engineer Internship for engineering students who want hands-on exposure to building automation and technical sales. You will support design, attend customer meetings, and learn how to translate engineering concepts into business value.

Based in Missouri, this full-summer internship blends engineering + relationship development, with mentorship, field exposure, and opportunities to contribute to proposals, site surveys, and project turnover.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
• U.S. citizen or legal right to work in the U.S. (sponsorship not available).
• Available to work full‑time for the summer (40 hours/week).
• Interest in combining engineering with customer engagement and consultative sales.

Responsibilities

• Support design and development of HVAC controls and BAS solutions.
• Attend customer meetings, site surveys, and technical discussions to gather requirements.
• Contribute to technical proposals, scoping, and solution recommendations for customers and engineers.
• Shadow Sales Engineers through the sales lifecycle from discovery to turnover.
• Collaborate with Operations to understand installation, commissioning, and project execution.
• Work with Service Operations to understand maintenance and lifecycle service strategies.
• Observe installations and integration of mechanical equipment, sensors, and control networks.
• Use Salesforce and estimating tools to track opportunities and document projects.
• Translate engineering concepts into clear business value propositions for clients.
