Job Title: HVAC Apprenticeship Instructor
Location: CATEC, Charlottesville, Virginia
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Charlottesville Area Technical Education Center (CATEC) is hiring for part-time evening teaching positions in HVAC for our Adult Apprenticeship programs. Apprenticeship classes meet one night per week from 6-9 p.m. Classes run during the fall semester (late August to mid-December) and spring semester (mid-January to mid-May). Level 1 classes meet on Mondays, Level 2 on Tuesdays, Level 3 on Wednesdays, and Level 4 on Thursdays.
Schedule: Evening, one class per week, 3 hours
Compensation: $40 to $55 per hour, depending on experience

Responsibilities
- Plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to the school philosophy, goals, and objectives.
- Create purposeful and appropriate lesson plans to maximize time on task and employ effective teaching strategies.
- Design a program of study that meets individual student needs.
- Develop a classroom environment conducive to learning by using a variety of teaching strategies.
- Encourage student enthusiasm for the learning process and foster good study habits.
- Provide progress and interim reports as required.
- Identify learning challenges and make appropriate referrals.
- Maintain a strong grasp of HVAC subject matter and stay current with industry developments.
- Assist in ongoing curriculum revision, including written courses of study.
- Develop reasonable classroom behavior rules and consistently apply them.
- Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assess student achievements regularly using multiple assessment methods.
- Adjust instructional program as needed.
- Respect confidentiality of student records and information.
- Uphold and enforce school rules and regulations.
- Maintain punctual attendance and professional work habits.
- Collaborate with industry employers to enhance the educational program.
Qualifications
- Licensed in HVAC trade.
- Teaching experience desirable but not required.
- Knowledge of instructional planning and classroom management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with employers and students.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
