Charlottesville City Schools CATEC seeks an Adult Auto Technology Instructor to teach adult Auto Technology classes under the Adult Programs Coordinator. You will develop lesson plans, create a productive classroom, and assess student progress with varied methods.

The role requires five years of auto technician experience and ASE certification in preferred areas; pay is $55.00 per hour for evening sessions (5-8 p.m.) during Fall and Spring, part-time.

Qualifications

  • Five years of auto technician experience required.
  • ASE certification in Auto Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission, Drive Train Suspension & Steering, Brakes, Electrical Systems, Heating & Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance preferred.

Job Description: Adult Auto Technology Instructor

General Scope of Work

Under the direction of the Adult Programs Coordinator, teaches adult Auto Technology class in accordance with CATEC rules, regulations, and policies.

Essential Functions

  • Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrates a strong grasp of subject matter.
  • Uses effective oral and written expression.
  • Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school's curriculum.
  • Develops, in accordance with school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members.
  • Continues professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
  • Maintains membership in appropriate professional organizations.
  • Evaluates the accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods such as teacher-made tests, samples of students' work, mastery skills check lists, criterion-referenced tests, and norm-referenced tests.

Education and Experience

  • Have five years of experience as an auto technician
  • Prefer candidate with ASE certification in Auto Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission, Drive Train Suspension & Steering, Brakes, Electrical Systems, Heating & Air Conditioning, & Engine Performance.

Pay

  • $55.00 per hour, Monday and Wednesday evening during Fall and Spring semesters from 5-8 p.m.
