Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking an intern for the Transmission Line Engineering & Design Group to analyze and design high-voltage transmission lines (69kV–345kV) and gain familiarity with NESC, material practices, and design standards. Representing a May 24, 2027 start, this position offers hybrid work arrangements, with in-person commuting to the designated location and full-time summer hours while school is out.

Qualifications

• Currently a student (Sophomore or higher).
• Enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commute to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

• Work with PLS-CADD.
• Learn estimating procedures.
• Learn NESC code and how to check for clearance violations.
• Model, design, and analyze new and existing transmission lines.
• Learn facility rating methodology.
• Become familiar with material and construction practices for high voltage lines.
