Job summary

Kiewit Power Engineering is seeking a Civil Engineering intern to assist with transmission line design and EPC project tasks from 12kV to 500kV in Raleigh, NC. You will join a team of design professionals supporting substations, transmission and distribution projects across the country.

The internship involves creating design documents, using PLS-CADD/PLS-POLE/PLS-TOWER, and applying NEC/NESC standards. You will gain exposure to detailed design and engineering processes within a dynamic power

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited university
• 3.0 cumulative GPA preferred
• AC/DC fundamentals
• per-unit mathematics and symmetrical components
• design documents and drawings necessary to complete a project
• engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI
• common Word processing, Spreadsheet, and E-mail software
• Working in a team environment
• Communicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients, etc.

Responsibilities

• Create design documents and drawings for a project, including generating transmission line design criteria for PLS-CADD
• Assist with using engineering application software to build, modify, and analyze transmission line models in PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE and PLS-TOWER
• Develop construction drawings, material specifications, and structure loading packages for submittal to vendors
• Review project schedules and work with project engineer to ensure projects stay on schedule
• Properly use the document management system
• Apply corporate standard engineering practices
• Assist with project activities and coordination
• Communicate with project engineer, customer representatives, and others as needed
• Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of work
• Bring potential project-related problems and solutions to the responsible party
