Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in California seeks an Assistant Transmission Engineer to support licensed engineers in designing high voltage transmission lines (69-500 kV) for new projects, alterations and redevelopments. You will work with the project team through design and construction, adapting plans to budget and client needs.

Responsibilities include assisting with line design, producing production drawings, and aiding in field inspections, data collection and client presentations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or ABET-accredited related program.
• Or ABET-accredited degree in Civil/Engineering Tech with FE exam eligibility.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard civil/structural techniques, codes and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Assist in transmission line design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assist with producing drawings for high voltage lines (69-500 kV).
• Help design line components including plan/profile drawings and foundation drawings.
• Apply basic civil/structural engineering concepts and procedures.
• Assist with data collection, studies and reports for project managers.
• Support CAD updates, client presentations and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations as required.
