Job summary

WSP Global Inc. is seeking a Substation Electrical Engineer for our Buffalo, NY office. You will deliver high voltage substation designs within a multi-disciplinary Power and Energy team, coordinating with the Supervising Engineer to meet project schedules and client objectives.

You will perform design calculations, prepare technical specs, and contribute to proposals, with opportunities to work on a growing energy advisory practice. Domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3-5 years of experience in high-voltage substation design.
• Experience in consulting firms is preferred.
• Eligible for P.E. licensing.
• Strong communication skills with client relations and proposal/report development.
• Pre-employment drug screening and criminal background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Provide design activities in accordance with codes and WSP policies.
• Work under mentorship of Supervising Engineer.
• Prepare substation plan, grounding, lighting, cable layout, and installation drawings.
• Perform design calculations (load flow, short circuit, Arc Flash, grounding, transformer sizing) using WinIGS/ETAP/SKM/CDEGS/CYMCAP.
• Prepare technical specifications and review vendor drawings.
• Utilize AutoCAD and MicroStation for drawings as needed.
• Ensure on-schedule delivery and maintain project documentation.
• Attend site meetings and inspections during construction.
