Job summary

WSP is seeking a Substation Electrical Engineer for our Buffalo, NY office to deliver high voltage substation designs within the Power and Energy Team. You will work under the Supervising Engineer, contribute to multi-discipline projects, and support estimates and proposals.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with 3-5 years of HV substation design experience, preferably in consulting. Proficiency with AutoCAD/MicroStation and design software is expected, along with

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 3-5 years of working experience in high-voltage substation design for renewable developers and electrical utility clients.
• Ideal candidate will have experience working in consulting firms.
• Eligible for P.E. licensing.
• Exceptional communication skills (client relations, project team communications, and proposal and report development).
• Pre-employment drug screening and criminal background investigation required.
• Position located at client offices with occasional travel.

Responsibilities

• Provide design activities in accordance with applicable codes and WSP policies.
• Prepare substation plans, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, cable trench, trays, conduit layouts and drawings.
• Coordinate with multi-discipline design team to meet project schedules.
• Prepare studies and design calculations (load flow, short circuit, Arc Flash, etc.) using WinIGS, ETAP, SKM, CDEGS, CYMCAP.
• Provide input on improvements during project execution and close-out.
• Prepare technical specifications and review vendor drawings.
• Deliver accurate designs meeting industry standards and good constructability.
• Assist with site queries and site inspections during construction.
