Harold Washington College is currently seeking a part-time Facultyto teach one or more courses during upcoming terms. The idealcandidate will have a passion for teaching and learning, commitmentto the college mission, and a record of demonstrated success in theclassroom in supporting and cultivating student learning.

We are seeking instructors for:
  • Fine Arts/Cinema Studies (Art history, film appreciation, filmhistory)
  • Humanities (especially: Cultural/ethnic studies, feminism/arts,Latin American/Latino studies, mass media, pop culture)
  • Gender, Women’s and Sexuality Studies
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design courses to meet learning outcomes, and promote students’active participation in their own learning.
  • Create an effective learning environment that fosters students’intellectual curiosity and helps students to problem solve usingdiscipline-specific thinking strategies.
  • Employ a variety of formative and summative assessments to ensure that classroom instruction leads to student learning and theattainment of the student learning outcomes for the course.
  • Help students reach their academic, personal and career goals andfoster a safe environment that respects the diversity of people andideas by modeling respect for all students and conveying confidencein every student’s ability to learn.
  • Contribute to and provide leadership in the student’s academicand professional communities, and promote collaboration andteamwork among members of these communities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Qualifying Academic Credentials: Credentialing for specificcourses is determined by college policy. Generally, a Mastersdegree in the subject or a Masters plus 18 graduate credit hours ina related discipline allows an individual to teach within aspecific academic area. Eligibility to teach is determined bytranscripts, catalog course descriptions, and/or documentation fromthe granting institution that clarifies the content in the major isappropriate for the teaching assignment.
  • In instances where an instructor’s academic preparation varies fromthe traditional credentials criteria but the instructor possessesrelevant qualifications or experience to the teaching assignmentbased on industry or specialized accreditation standards andcontributes to effective teaching and student learning outcomes, arequest for an exception may be approved by the Vice President viathe Tested Experience form. The Tested Experience form can be foundon the Faculty Forms page of the CCC website. Qualifications to beconsidered may include, but are not limited to: on the job trainingin the industry or field, certification and licensure by arecognized certifying or licensing state, industry, or nationalagency, professional experience in the industry, peer-reviewedpresentations/publications, or related dissertation topic.
  • Discipline specific credentials are currently stated in academicpolicy as follows: Fine Arts (Art History/Appreciation & Cinema) Courses: Master’s in Art History or M.A. in Cinema; Humanities: M.A. in Humanities or Classics or ComparativeReligions or Foreign Language literature – OR – Master’s degreewith 18 graduate credit hours in one or several related humanitiesdisciplines. Vice Presidents may also consider the followingrelated degrees to credential an individual for a content relatedcourse: Master’s in Art History, Film Studies, Foreign Languages, English Literature, Theater, Philosophy, Music, Musicology, MedievalStudies, Interdisciplinary Humanities, etc.; Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies Courses: Master'sdegree or 30 graduate SH in Gender, Women's (i.e., feministstudies, not simply women-themed courses), and Sexuality StudiesAND successful completion of annual CCC GWSS training; Knowledge of Brightspace and Zoom, preferred.; Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a diverse group of staff and students required.; Experience with a diverse, multilingual student population isdesired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.

Salary Range: $800.00 Per Contact Hour
