Our client, an engineering consulting firm, is looking to add a Human Resources Manager to their team. This position has responsibility for the development and execution of human resources policies, programs, and initiatives including recruitment, retention, onboarding, career progression and development, employee relations, compensation and non-health benefits and offerings. The HR Manager will monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including EEO, FMLA, FLSA, etc. The successful candidate will coordinate with a group of human resources professionals and reports to the HR Director. They must be able to work well within a cross-team environment and work closely with the CAO, company leadership, and staff at all levels.

Position summary:

Working with the HR Director and CAO, the successful candidate will support employee satisfaction and engagement initiatives. They will also lead and guide managers through employee relations matters, including the execution of performance and behavioral improvement plans. Responsibilities include the management of the compensation program including participation in surveys and studies, compilation of data, and the performance of analyses of staff salaries to various geographic markets and professional disciplines in the environmental and engineering consulting industry. They will assist with the integration of acquired employees into company policies, procedures, and offerings.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization's human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, acquisitions, and succession planning.
  • Provides support and guidance to HR team, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate and confidential circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Develops job families, job descriptions, salary grades, and ensures compliance with FLSA exemption laws.
  • Supports the talent acquisition process, including recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Manages the compensation program, analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of related experience, 7 of which were spent managing other HR professionals within an HR team. Demonstrated capacity to manage HR practices, policies, and initiatives independently, on behalf of HR Director and leadership. Proven, sound decision-making, management, and leadership skills are required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Organizational Management, Human Resources, or related field is required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certification through SHRM (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) or HRCI (PHR, SPHR) strongly preferred.
  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills, including negotiation of critical issues and effective persuasive communication.
  • Demonstrates HR practice acumen and understanding of labor laws and legal issues related to the HR practice.
  • The successful candidate will possess management and leadership skills and sound decision-making skills.
